Acuff & Associates Long Time Principal Terry Dunger to Retire:

Acuff & Associates announces the retirement of long time Principal Terry Dunger. Mr. Dunger became part of the Acuff family early in the firm’s history. In 1999 he joined Acuff as a Principal, with the firm becoming Acuff & Dunger at that time. In 2008 the firm’s ownership merged and became Acuff & Associates. Through these 23 years, Terry has played an important part in the growth and leadership of the firm.

Terry has a long career dealing with the numbers and the regulations that make the retirement industry challenging to many. His career began with working 10 years as an Employee Plan Specialist with the IRS. That experience has helped him throughout his career at Acuff, giving him unusual insight into the inner workings of the regulations and the guidelines for business owners and their retirement plan needs. With more than 50 years of the retirement industry under his belt, Terry has seen the industry go through many changes. He is a member of (ARA) American Retirement Association as well as (ASPPA) American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries, an Enrolled Agent with the IRS, and has served on several national advisory committees.

“In my time at Acuff I have always been focused on using my experience to help our clients understand their needs. More importantly I have tried to influence those I have worked with to think outside of the norms and to search for answers in less than obvious places,” says Dunger. He continues “Over the years I hope that I have helped people not just with their business needs but also with their lives.”

Acuff CEO, Trina Gross says, “Terry has been a great asset to Acuff exemplifying the epitome of caring, service, and concern for his clients, financial advisors, co-workers, and everyone he meets. He is loved and will be missed by all.”

Terry is not one to rest and will continue to pursue his interests outside of retirement plans. Mr. Dunger, a proud native Memphian, is an involved alumni fan of Bartlett High School athletics as well as the University of Memphis sports programs. He is an avid golfer and serves as a volunteer and Co Chairman for the Shot Link Committee during the FedEx St. Jude Classic PGA Golf Tournament in Memphis, TN. Mr. Dunger is on the Advisory Board at Love Worth Finding, a Not for Profit Evangelical Organization. He is also a member of the Rotary Club of Memphis East (RCME) and has held the offices of Board Member, Club Secretary, Club Chaplain, and Sergeant-of-Arms. In addition, he has served on the District 6800 Youth Leadership Conference Staff for the last 25 years. He is an active member at Broadmoor/Waypoint Baptist Church where he has served as Board Member, Treasurer, Deacon, and Sunday School Teacher.

Beyond all of those activities’ Terry will be able to enjoy more time with his wife of 52 years, Pam, their two daughters and his four grandchildren. “My perspective on life is that – life is full of experiences. Our attitude determines whether these experiences impact the world for good,” says Dunger.

Founded in 1991, Acuff & Associates is a third party administrator (TPA) for 401(k) and other types of defined contribution retirement plans and an actuarial consulting firm for defined benefit plans.
